You know what I think we are really, really good at? Making things WAY more complex than they should be.
We worry about the future so we do our best to plan it with the limited information we have at our disposal.
We experience a setback and so we overanalyze and hyper-criticize what went wrong and what we can do to fix it.
We feel aimless or are struggling with our purpose and so we put our efforts into why and how and what could be the source of all of this?
And I think the reality of a lot of questions in our lives is that the answers are not easy, but they are simple.
Sometimes your answer to your uncertainty is simply this: Trust Jesus. The specifics will come.
Sometimes your heartache and your loneliness is only eased by this elementary truth: Jesus loves you.
Sometimes all your analyzing and planning and strategizing and predicting will come to a head and you just have to anchor yourself in this: He is faithful.
The basics. The essentials. The truth-no-matter-how-you-spin-it facts that you can hang your hat on, no matter what’s going on in your life–do you know those?
Refresh your memory. Dig into His promises and remind yourself of the basics– those are the building blocks to true change.
In my experience, all of the other proactive things we do for ourselves serve no purpose if we have forgotten the basics. Algebra becomes impossible when one forgets the value of numbers, right?
Also, I wrote five down on a sticky note this morning and put those babies on my desk right in front of my face Because you know what? I’m fully aware that my big dreams are built through practicing the basics. Maybe you should get out that …just sayin’
“The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple.” -Psalm 19:7
