“It is well with my soul”— I have seen this on t-shirts and cards and walls and in books and there is something so peaceful sounding about the wording alone, isn’t there? . It is “well“— not just okay, not just fine, not “good” or expected but rather, WELL– it is best. . And “with my SOUL”— as in, if you search deep down in the innermost parts of my being, where certain things hide and where my heart retreats to– there, there it is well. . This impenetrable place of things being “well with our soul” is the hardest when our heart is struggling desperately to understand. How? Why me? Why now? Shouldn’t things be different? . The other day, I was letting my wheels turn like there’s no tomorrow. I mean, digging a mental rut so deep, I could’ve set up camp in that place. As I felt my hands dig more dirt, I realized I had a choice in that moment: Either I could CHOOSE to stay there and seek understanding or I could CHOOSE to trust Jesus and seek peace. . So I got up, forced myself to take a few deep breaths and actually vocalize this: “It is WELL with my SOUL because my Jesus knows what is well and He is the maker of my soul.” . Life didn’t change drastically. Actually, my circumstances remained the same and I was still a little dusty from hanging out in self-pity. But the Lord, in ALL His grace, extended His hand and I remembered I didn’t have to stay there. . Friend, let it be well with your soul. Not because you agree with every happening or understand all His plans, but because you know the One who does.
Today is going to be a GREAT day, get ready!
