I used to get those stupid, annoying messages on Facebook inviting me to play “Candy Crush Saga” and wanted to gauge my eyes out.
No, I don’t want to play Candy Crush.
But last week I was waiting in line at the post office and saw someone playing Candy Crush.
Forced against my will (not really), I downloaded the game on my phone and started playing it.
Not even kidding you, I almost let the bath tub overflow the other night because I was trying to get to the next level and had TEN SECONDS LEFT TO MATCH CANDIES.
Should I have just told you that? Oh well!
Unless you have played the game, you won’t fully understand what I am about to say, but try to follow me here, it’s crucial.
For the sake of those who have not given into this crack-like addiction, I will reference only skills needed in level one so you will understand the metaphor
Essentially, the goal is to try and match up the different candies in groups of at least 3 or more.
If you do that, those specific candies disappear and you receive the point value for the candies you “crushed.”
Well, sometimes, as you are shifting candies and more ones fall down to fill those candies you previously knocked out, more combos are created, which then creates a whole new picture and slew of options!
BASICALLY, what I am trying to say is, that one little hot tamale that was hanging out in the far right corner that had no other hot tamales around it seems like it would cost you the game, well it gets taken care of!
It’s like no matter how much you attempted to plan your method of attack or your next move, the new candies that came into the picture COMPLETELY changed EVERYTHING!
Do you officially think I am crazy?
Well, I don’t care.
My brain works in analogies so when I started noticing this, I thought, “THAT IS MY LIFE!!!”
Often times, I will enter a situation or be faced with a set of circumstances and realize there is that “one hot tamale” that I am just not sure how things will work out.
I relentlessly try to plan out, detail by detail, dollar by dollar, step by step, what I will do and how my life will look so that I can crush the hot tamale.
And it truly never fails that in the midst of my efforts and lack of the big-picture-perspective, God is working on my behalf and preparing the perfect combo of candies to crush my hot tamale and get me to the next level!
Usually, the way the problem is solved or the answer to my struggle is not in a way that I could have ever anticipated, planned for or strategized to make happen.
Only one word for it:
His candy crushing abilities are straight ridiculous.
You would think that as many times as I have seen Him work, I would stop worrying about my current circumstances, as they are only limited to what I can see.
That’s the way this whole thing works though, you have to work with the hand you’ve been given and trust that when your abilities end, His begin.
Fortunately for us, the “candies” we are dealt are not based on our performance, they are provided by His grace.
I do not know what situation you are going through, what addiction you are struggling with, what conflict you have that is unresolved or whatever trial that is knocking at your door right now.
But I do know that you don’t know what God has planned for you.
Your brain can’t conceive it.
Your mind can’t imagine it.
Your heart can’t even anticipate it.
It is not contingent upon that “hot tamale” because our Jesus is the ultimate candy crusher and that ain’t nothin’ but a thang for Him!
My encouragement for you: Do what you can with what you have and where you are and TRUST that He will provide a way out of your situation and place your feet on a mountaintop.
I do not say this to be aloof to reality or ignore that our current situations are difficult; I say this because I am aware of my reality and refuse to settle for only what I can see.
Crush those candies, friends!
Keep movin’ forward!
But when you are hard-pressed, in a tight place, or unsure of how your current circumstance will still produce the results you need, trust the fact that the Ultimate Candy Crusher is working on YOUR behalf!
