Maybe they’re walking into a classroom wondering where to sit.
Maybe they’re scanning the lunchroom for a familiar face.
Maybe they’re trying to remember their locker combination.
Maybe they are walking into tryouts with a nervous stomach.
Maybe they’re raising their hand even though they aren’t sure.
Maybe they’re laughing so hard with a friend they can barely breathe.
Maybe they’re wondering why they weren’t invited.
Maybe they’re trying to decide whether to follow the crowd or do what they know is right.
Maybe they make the team.
Maybe they don’t.
Maybe they discover a hidden talent they didn’t even know they had.
Maybe they ace the test.
Maybe they worked so hard and still struggled.
Maybe someone says something that makes them stand a little taller.
Maybe someone says something they’ll still be thinking about tonight.
Maybe they notice the kid sitting alone.
Maybe they’re the kid sitting alone.
Maybe they make a mistake and have to own it.
Maybe they do something incredibly brave and we’ll never even know it required so much courage until years later.
That’s the tender part of watching our children grow: So much of their transformation happens in rooms we will never enter.
This is WHAT WE HAVE BEEN PRAYING FOR. Even when it feels hard for them or us!
Before we ever spent way too much money on new school supplies or dorm room furniture, Jesus had already prepared the room, cased the threshold, and planted a million seeds in their hearts. And ours.
He is as close as their breath.
In the classroom.
At the lunch table.
On the field.
In the locker room.
In the friendship.
In the disappointment.
In the moment they need courage and the moment they need comfort.
There is not one second of their day that falls outside the presence, attention, authority, or love of Jesus.
So when our minds start following them into all the places our bodies cannot go, we can remind our hearts: Everywhere we cannot be, He already is. He has prepared them! And us!
This is good ground. This is holy ground.
It’s going to be a year of blessing and strength and growth and new beginnings—what a gift that we get to do this 🤍
