Imagine if you could calculate how much of your life has been spent thinking about how you look.
It would be sobering to say the least.
The mirror. The camera. The reflection in a store window. Wondering if people noticed the weight gain. Pulling at your shirt. Zooming in on a photo instead of remembering the moment it captured.
It’s so normal that most of us don’t even realize we’re doing it.
But man is it EXHAUSTING.
We hear the undercurrent within us and it robs us of the joy before we even experience the moments in front of us.
We often assume the answer is becoming more confident.
If I could just lose the weight…
Clear my skin…
Look younger…
Finally love my body…
Then I’d be free.
But what if that’s the wrong finish line?
Because even the women who seem the most confident can still spend enormous amounts of mental energy thinking about themselves.
The goal of the gospel isn’t to become uber self-confident. It offers something WAY better. It reminds you that life isn’t found in admiring every part of you—rather, it’s discovered when you’re no longer consumed with yourself cause you’re too busy LIVING!
The more we behold Jesus, the more we’re transformed into His likeness (2 Corinthians 3:18). Our attention begins to shift. We become less captivated by our reflection and more captivated by His presence. Less occupied with ourselves and more available for the life unfolding right in front of us.
This Fourth of July weekend, let’s embrace the Gospel freedom we’ve been offered and get busy living!
Busy laughing with your family instead of worrying about the picture.
Busy listening instead of wondering how you look while someone else is talking.
Busy worshiping instead of feeling self-conscious.
Busy playing on the beach instead of covering up.
Busy noticing the goodness of God instead of endlessly noticing yourself.
We will want this. time back
Free yourself of the mental gymnastics so you can be free to love and notice and be present and soak it all in!!!
Because at the end of your life, you won’t wish you’d spent more time thinking about your appearance.
You’ll have wanted to FULLY LIVE and embrace all of it—now. That’s freedom 🤍
