Peace and pain can exist in the same place

on September 03, 2026

Have you ever been having a perfectly good day until someone sends a text that feels a little off?
Or walked into a room, felt the tension, & suddenly your body is tense too?

Maybe someone you love is worried, so now you’re worried. Or someone is disappointed in you, and you spend hours replaying the conversation. Or maybe you’re navigating really hard circumstances and suddenly everything gets blurry.

I’ve been thinking about how easily our peace can feel in jeopardy.

And I don’t say that critically (I’m talking to me!!!). We’re human. We care. We feel DEEPLY. Sometimes what happens is genuinely devastating and SHOULD knock the wind out of us.

But Jesus has called us to live differently. If we, as believers who know who holds tomorrow AND us, don’t have peace, why would the world want what we have?

Honestly, the constant seesaw is tiring.
Does everything that reaches my heart also have to take over my heart?

Jesus shows us over & over again, the answer is no.
He wasn’t emotionally removed from people or pain. He wept. He grieved. His peace wasn’t the absence of emotion. His emotions had somewhere solid to land.

Jesus lived in deep communion with the Father. He kept returning to Him, not to escape His real life, but because communion with the Father was HOW HE LIVED IT!

He’s been hammering this on my heart because what a RELIEF to have this kind of peace.

We cannot manufacture the peace of Jesus by trying really hard to stay calm. It’s always the Holy Spirit. The peace He gives often makes absolutely NO SENSE considering what is right in front of us.

I don’t think the goal is becoming harder to rattle.
Maybe it’s becoming quicker to return.

When the text comes.
When someone doesn’t understand you.
When the room feels weird.
When the diagnosis changes everything.
When your own thoughts are the loudest thing in the room.

We return to what was true BEFORE any of it happened.

That is one thing I’m working on every single day. This muscle, like an inner sanctuary.
Hardest part? The reps are through surrender.

I’m so thankful for a Father who sees when our peace feels worn, tattered, and frayed, and whispers to our souls, “Come with Me.”

What a gift🤍
