Have you ever noticed how anxiety rarely stays where it started?
Maybe it began with a difficult conversation, an uncertain season, a diagnosis, a decision, a relationship, or an unanswered prayer. But before long, it starts coloring everything else. It’s there while you’re working, driving, making dinner, sitting in church, playing with your kids, or trying to fall asleep.
Your body is present, but part of your mind keeps wandering back to the same place.
I think we’ve all lived there.
The interesting thing is that anxiety doesn’t always convince us something matters when it doesn’t. Often, it DOES matter, which can be the confusing part.
But what anxiety distorts is proportion. It slowly expands one concern until it begins crowding out everything else—your peace, your attention, your gratitude, and your ability to delight in the ordinary gifts God is placing right in front of you.
That’s why perspective is such a gift.
Perspective doesn’t always remove the burden— in fact, it often doesn’t. Part of the gold is that it doesn’t require the change of circumstance— it opens your eyes to who God is amidst it.
It reminds us that the burden doesn’t have to occupy our entire inner world. It invites us to lift our eyes, breathe deeply, remember who God has always been, and allow His presence to become more real than the uncertainty competing for our attention.
The goal isn’t to pretend life isn’t hard.
It’s to refuse to let one concern become the atmosphere your soul lives in.
It’s to live a life where you cultivate an inner sanctuary that you return to again and again and again— so that no matter what anxiety is swirling around you, you can return to the work in front of you with excellence and joy. You can return to the people in front of you with steadiness and tenderness. You can return to the grace in front of you with gratitude and expectation.

Literally, take a minute and imagine yourself going high up into the sky— watch as things get smaller and smaller and smaller— and up there, ask Jesus for perspective so you can return to the current with awareness of His hand and your gaze upon what’s eternal.
