Remembering the goodness of God is oxygen to a weary soul

on May 20, 2026

I think many of us genuinely know God is good…we’ve just become rushed. Distracted. Emotionally tired. Life gets loud, disappointment clouds our vision, and gratitude quietly slips to the background while survival takes center stage.

Sometimes we don’t even realize we are letting life pass without slowing down enough to recognize, praise, embrace, and fully step into His goodness. We have normalized this low-grade disconnect from wonder.

But honestly? I think His goodness is our oxygen. Our breath.

All throughout Scripture, the unraveling usually began with forgetting who God was. Fear-based living. Stress-driven decisions. Grasping for control. Questioning His timing. The issue was rarely His faithfulness—it was forgetfulness of His character.

And when I really stop and look back, I realize His goodness has been woven through every single part of my life. In answered prayers and unanswered ones.

The doors He opened. The doors He lovingly shut. The people He placed in my life at exactly the right time. The heartbreaks He used to deepen me instead of destroy me. The mornings He let the sun rise again over a life I handled far from perfectly. The grace that kept meeting me in places where I should have disqualified myself.

And honestly, the older I get, the more undone I become by this truth: God could do nothing else for me and I would already live forever indebted to His mercy.

Not indebted in fear. Not indebted in striving. But in AWE.

Think about that hymn as old as time- “Amazing Grace” 🎵
The realization of our humanity is not meant to leave us stuck in shame saying, “I’m such a wretch.”

No—the Gospel lifts our eyes and causes something deep within us to cry out, “Oh my gosh…WHAT AMAZING GRACE.”

Even considering where we’d be without Him? Impossible.

How is He this patient? This compassionate? This kind?

And somehow, He still keeps drawing near.

Gratitude is so much bigger than thanking God for gifts we could never deserve. It is the ongoing revelation that He is relentlessly Himself in every moment. I AM SO GRATEFUL!

What a Father. What a Friend. What a FAITHFUL GOD!!!
