What happens when your life stops looking like what you expected?
When the timeline changes.
When the answer is different than the one you prayed for.
When the relationship shifts.
When the door closes.
When your carefully built plans suddenly require flexibility you never wanted to give.
Because most of us love the idea of trusting God…until trust requires a pivot.
We say we want dependence on Jesus, but many times what we actually want is clarity, predictability, and a manageable plan. We want to feel steady because life is cooperating with us—not because our souls are deeply anchored in God.
But pivots expose that.
They reveal where our stability was really coming from.
Suddenly, we realize how much of our peace was attached to things staying the same. How quickly we reach for control, explanation, comfort, or certainty to hold ourselves together.
And honestly? That revelation is mercy.
Because rigid things break under pressure. Rooted things bend and keep growing.
Jesus never modeled a frantic, controlling life. He was flexible. Interruptible. Present. Steady. Crowds shifted. People disappointed Him. Plans changed. Suffering came. And yet His soul remained anchored.
That kind of steadiness is not built through perfect circumstances. It is formed through surrender.
Through moments where you cannot control the outcome and must learn to trust the character of God instead.
Through disappointments that loosen your grip on false stability.
Through unanswered questions that deepen your dependence.
Through pivots that force your roots deeper than your preferences.
Maybe the pivot in front of you is not proof that your life is falling apart.
Maybe it is revealing where your soul still depends on predictability more than presence.
Because if the true goal of faith is likeness to Jesus, then flexibility becomes holy ground. The unexpected moments become opportunities to practice surrender in real time.
Not because they feel good. Not because they are easy.
But because they teach us that peace was never supposed to come from life “feeling” manageable.
