What sermon are you giving?

on November 07, 2024

When things happen in the world or the tides of culture are changing around us, we feel the pressure to say something and offer our two cents. We feel the pressure to do so quickly, often not giving the discernment, humility, and sheer time that is required to respond in a way that is beneficial, truthful, and helpful for progress.

Yesterday, I went to write something and quickly drew back. Yes, I have my personal feelings and strong opinions based on Biblical principles and have asked Jesus for guidance continually in that area. Because despite policy being pretty definitive, humanity is messy. Complicated. Layered with intricacies far beneath the surface.
But as I saw people respond, my heart broke a little.
People became SO flippant with their words and demeaning with their tones. Have we forgotten that people stop LISTENING when LOVE is absent?

Regardless of what the world is doing, believers are called to be SET APART. To talk to Jesus before talking to others and get serious about humbling our own souls so that His name can be made alive in us. The good news about truth is that IT PREVAILS—light bursts forth no matter the darkness that comes against it. And so—when you stand on truth, you don’t have to scream your point or tear down others to gain more ground. Jesus never compromised love for truth; they’re held in both hands synonymously.

I’m not saying that we get lazy, quiet, or complacent when Jesus has asked us to fight against anything that doesn’t look like Him.
I’m just saying that it is wildly confusing if we claim to be people of acceptance + grace while calling names.
I’m just saying it is contradictory to talk about protection of what’s important while wishing vulnerability + harm to those who oppose your viewpoint.

Survey your thoughts, texts, reactions, etc.—what is your sermon title?

We are all on the same boat driving forward. Healing is a process and it requires all of us to get our hands in the dirt and ask the Father for divine direction on where to go, how to speak, + what actions to take.

Hysteria + pride is contagious.
But so is humility, honesty, + hope.

To trust Jesus, however you feel, means to know peace today 🤍
