What's my life supposed to look like?

on August 19, 2026

It happens soooo subtly—oftentimes we don’t even realize we are doing it.

You’re getting dressed and think, I should look better than this by now. You watch someone handle something with ease and think, Why am I still struggling with this? You look at your work, marriage, parenting, friendships, faith, finances—and somewhere underneath it all is this low hum: I should be further along.

But…according to whom? Have you ever stopped to ask?

I’m realizing how many standards we use to measure our lives were never actually handed to us by Jesus. FEW of them are actually.

Some came from culture. Some from people we admire. Some from scrolling too long. Some from the families we grew up in. Some we completely made up 😂 and then held ourselves accountable to them as if they were Scripture.

And THAT will wear you slam out. Because the box never stays still. It keeps moving.

You finally feel confident in one area and immediately notice where you’re lacking in another. And eventually, the boxes we build for ourselves become ones we unknowingly hand to others too.

This is what I love about Jesus: He was completely unmoved by the pressure to become who people thought He should be.

He knew the Father. He knew His assignment. He knew what was true. And that clarity made Him FREE.

Biblical freedom isn’t living without authority—it’s living under the right Authority. Free from confusing people’s preferences with God’s commands. Free from needing His life to look impressive. Free from timelines He was never given.

Following Jesus will cost us something, but He never asked us to exhaust ourselves carrying expectations that didn’t come from Him.

Maybe peace isn’t finally becoming everything you think you should be. Maybe it’s getting close enough to Jesus to recognize His voice from all the measuring sticks you picked up along the way.

When God defines what is good, faithful, and enough, we can stop asking the world if we’re doing okay.

What a relief to put down what He never asked us to carry. 🤍
We get to have joy in our REAL lives!!!! And throw away the box 📦 👏🏻
