Well, to be totally honest, I tried to write this so many times yesterday and I couldn’t. I guess I felt like no matter what I typed, it felt wildly insufficient, barely scraping the surface of trying to celebrate my Sleddy.
AND no matter how many pictures or videos I tried to gather, I thought, “wait, but how do I show his humor?! His pure uninhibited kindness? His supernatural perseverance? His inquisitive curiosity? His love for animals? His LOVE for any kind of adventure?! His swiftness to say I’m sorry and his even more rapid ability to forgive?
How do I portray how he soaks up life like a sponge that simply can’t fit it all into one day? How he says “thank you, thank you, thank youuu” and squeezes his whole face and hugs you for even giving him his favorite cup he likes?!?
I just watched him yesterday and—knowing I was collecting words for how I’d describe him—I felt so overwhelmed with gratitude for who he is.
His favorite thing to do right now? HELP. With anything and everything. He simply wants to be a part.
He reminds me how doing ordinary things with extraordinary humility + joy make us into extraordinary examples of what Jesus looks like.
Sledge Reaves, it is fitting that our birthdays are one day apart. Because today, I already received the BEST present ever in celebrating you. Everything is fun with you!!! Your questions—your WORDS!!!!!! Oh my, your words! Did I tell you how proud I am of you, yet?!?
You’ve helped me realize that my love language might be one of your extra-long + extra-tight hugs. I think they’ll heal the world. Keep giving those out, even when the world makes you sad or feels hard.
