What is your "library card"?

on April 08, 2026

His excitement level was a 986/10. All the options! And they let us get a library CARD—are you kidding me?
He hugged me at least seven times before we left—so thankful for the chance to invite this regular rhythm we have at home into our time in Texas.

You see, I think sometimes we believe the lie that spiritual maturity looks like being steady, composed, and unaffected. Like having a grip on our emotions. Like not getting too high or too low.
And there is truth to not being driven by our emotions + letting the steadiness of Jesus be our anchor.

But watching him—fully LIT up over a library card and a stack of books—I realized how much of that might actually be distance, not depth.

Because if I’m honest, a lot of what we call “growth” looks like chasing. Chasing clarity. Chasing outcomes. Chasing a version of life that finally feels settled. And all the while, we’re moving past the very life God is giving us.
We call it “building the Kingdom” but since when did He call us to sideline our joy until we get to a certain place?
Or to live depleted and stamp it okay because we are doing things for Him, all while missing Him in the process!

We say we want to look like Jesus…but He was never in a hurry. He noticed people. He rejoiced. He gave thanks. He was fully present to what was right in front of Him.

Joy isn’t missing.
And God isn’t withholding.
Sometimes the clouds of complaint or comparison or fear of not measuring up or pride or obsession with productivity—or whatever it is—keep us from living from a place of gratitude + Joy!
And Joy—it’s our STRENGTH!
Gratitude is a rock steady foundation for hope!

We’ve just gotten used to living slightly ahead of our lives—chasing the wind—while the fullness of what we’ve been given sits quietly in front of us, waiting to be noticed.

Spiritual formation is always happening—the way we pay attention shapes our perspective, our language, our countenance, + our hope.

So maybe becoming more like Jesus starts here—in your life TODAY, what is your “library card?”
What ordinary blessings are you overlooking?

Recognize its fullness. Give thanks for it. Let His goodness settle within you. It will affect everything else.
